2011 calf pictures

Posted by Tim Dixon on Sunday, January 30, 2011,
I stated in a previous post that I would take some pictures of the year's arrivals. It was a beautiful sunny day here and the calves were feeling good so standing for a picture was a low priority for them but I managed to snap a few. The first four are eye candy calves and the next two are purebreds by SVR Gangster who sired the Grand Champion bull at 2011 National Western in Denver.

Bankers understand agriculture soo well.

Posted by Tim Dixon on Thursday, January 27, 2011,
This ad  from New Zealand is pretty funny to most of us who are in the agricultural business but it also should make you realize that the average consumer probably understands our industry as much as Julian does. Do your part and go the extra mile to help your neighbors learn about agriculture!

Great Reading

Posted by Tim Dixon on Monday, January 17, 2011,
The comments in this catalogue are certainly unique. They make for a good read. I would say marketing genius as most people would be waiting by their mailbox for next year's! For those of you who are not involved in the cattle business, this is a cattle sale catalogue and the owner uses uncommon and "colorful" words to describe them.

Calving Updates

Posted by Tim Dixon on Sunday, January 16, 2011,
Calving is progressing at a snails pace. We only have 11 calves so far. I don't know what everyone else is finding but here this year the cows are going 6-10 days over with heavy birthweights (all unassisted). Usually this means more bull calves but we are heavy on heifers. To date we have 6 eye candy calves with 4  heifers and 2 bulls. There are 4 purebred angus calves with 2 of each. It has been hard to get pictures but I will post some when I get them.

You just never know...

Posted by Tim Dixon on Sunday, January 9, 2011,
I just came back from checking the cows. I usually do it at 10:00 pm but tonight I went at 9:00, well one had just calved and she had the afterbirth off the hind end but not the front, I didn't see any breathing so i jumped the gate and tore the membrane off the head and low and behold there was a big shiny eye staring at me and a tounge sticking out and wiggling! The cow didn't want me there so i jumped back out and when I looked back he had his head in the air. Its amazing how things work o...

We wish all the best to all our friends and customers past and the new ones we will meet in 2011.
