Yesterday we planted some asparagus crowns. Since we have a small acreage we do it all by hand. With the help of some neighbors (Alex and Tessa Craig) we had planted 1000 plants in under two hours.
For those of you who are not familiar with asparagus, the material you plant are called crowns, a root mass that resembles spiders, for lack of a better term.
It will be 2013 before these plants will  be ready for harvest. Asparagus is a perennial crop and must be allowed to get established and build up reserves in the root system so it will last for years.
