Alberta trip

I haven't blogged in a while as I took a trip to Alberta to take in Farmfair International in Edmonton. Ronnie Ford and myself left on Nov 11 and returned on the 18th. We took in the Angus show and multibreed sale as well as the supreme show over two days and then travelled to Vermilion to take in the Koran Stock Farm Dispersal sale and visited with other angus breeders Waveny Angus and Everblack Angus. Tuesday it was off to the JD Lann Dispersal sale in Olds and Wednesday visited Alta Genetics and Chico Ranch before attending a Calgary Flames Game that night. Pictures in a clockwise description: Calgary vs. Phoenix, Koran Dispersal, SAV Prodigy, Champion Angus bull at Farmfair, and Red Six Mile Sakic at Alta Genetics.

Heifers for sale

High yields

We are half done the soybeans for this year and the yields have been impressive. Our best yields have been 1.5 and 1.7 tonnes/ac. The average for this part of the country is 1-1.1 tonnes/ac.

Oliffe Meats

Recently we had the privelege of having a visit from the Gundy's  who are customers of Atlantic Beef Products. This family of entrepreneurs own such establishments in Toronto as George Restaurant and Oliffe Fine Meats. Thanks for the visit guys and the great article in the National Post on PEI Beef!

Sad News

We were sorry to hear this week that Thomas, the eight year old son of Kirk (Canadian Angus Association President) and Jill Wildman of Towaw Red Angus has been diagnosed with leukemia and is undergoing chemotherapy. Best wishes and all the best to the Wildman family from the Dixon's.

September notes

It has been a busy month here. We have been catching up on odd jobs and repairs the last couple of weeks as well as training calves. I went to the New Brunswick Beef Expo on the weekend and had a successful and great time. I arrived with 6 head and came home with 3! Many thanks to Mark Oulton for all his help and the Expo crew, especially Gale and Linda Lackie for all their hard work.
