It was a beautiful day and a great sale on Saturday. Our cow calf pair sold to Harold Oulton for $2450, our crossbred calf to Myron MacQuarrie for $1500 and bred heifer to Maple Meadows for $1600. All are repeat customers! Thanks to all the buyers, bidders, sellers and volunteers who make it happen.

Verified Beef

Amanda Miller from the PEI Cattle Producers was here for an hour and a half one evening this week to train me on the VBP (Verified Beef Production) course. This nationwide program provides guidelines and proper procedures for cattlemen to follow for safe, humane and healthy beef production.

Beef n' Blues 2013

I had the opportunity to be one of four beef producers representing the industry at the Beef and Blues event in Summerside PEI Friday night. Over 350 people filled Eastlink Arena and sampled over a dozen dishes featuring PEI Certified Beef and listened to great blues music.

Straw is done!

Harvest has been a challenge this year. It started in early August with the barley but breakdowns lengthened that process. Just as we got the oats started, rain fell for two weeks! All in all the yields were good with barley testing at 46 lbs/bu and 1.2 tonnes/acre. Oats was 37lbs/bu and 1.5 tonnes/ac.

This heifer just keeps getting better every day and we have decided to enter her in the Angus in Action Sale on October 26th as well. She is sired by the well known club calf bull Eye Candy and out of a very powerful Angus cow (pictured below)
